BlizzCon 2010 Lore Panel

Alright, so today we had Friday’s Lore Panel; did we learn anything?

Oh yes.

You can read the full transcript here.

But you don’t come here for a link to mmo-champion.  What you want is speculation.  So… what can we derive from what was said?  Read on.A couple of these are obvious.  We’ve got ourselves an old god in Cataclysm.  His name is Nizzoth.  He’s the catalyst behind the Nightmare and Deathwing.  Will we fight him?  If so, it’d probably be that “secret last boss” each expansion has after the hyped “last boss”.

The new blue dragon aspect is… Kalecgos.  Actually, that’ no surprise.  The real news is that we *will* have a new blue dragon aspect.  My guess is we’ll see Alexstrasza use that life force she captured (when Malygos was killed) to give Kalecgos his power.

Get ready for some Thrall love.  It was outright said on the panel that:

Thrall is the most important person on Azeroth…

And speaking of Thrall love, the Thrall/Jaina question was finally put to rest.  Not going to happen. (Boo!)  Sure sure, it could have been really hokey.  But let’s face it, it’s one of those lore things that, if done right, could have been incredibly unique and cool.  So, who does he end up with?  A Brown Orc from Nagrand.  This isn’t  a huge revelation as it has already been discussed in the new WoW Novel.  Her name is… Aggra.  My opinion?  Metzen was dead-set on having Thrall hook up with an orc.  It’s interesting that it’s a brown orc; in fact I like it.  It further unites the Orcs back with Draenor.  That said, the whole lore behind it, the story… it’s a bit rehashed from every other romantic comedy made since the 1980’s.  But hey… at least it’s not Garona.  Remember that rumor?

And since we’re discussing previous popular posts here that have been confirmed (in some way or another), it looks like Metzen wants to bring Illidan back somehow, and it also looks like we’re finally going to see what’s up with Nozdormu in the Caverns of Time.

But the most important/exciting/intriguing information put forward is one that’s not receiving a lot of attention:

What happened to Kul Tiras?
We have to save something for the future patches, not now. We will deal with Kul Tiras in the future.

More on this later… but I’ll give you a big hint… it ties in with the most popular post on this blog.

Isn’t Nizzoth behind DeathWing, Azshara and the Emerald Dream (and maybe more)? Wouldn’t that suggest Azshara should come first?

If he does get added, I hope he gets Kil’Jaeden treatment rather than Algalon. Although neither old god added so far really got the hype they deserved.

I’m not sure about Queen Azshara, but as you said, Blizzard tends to be a bit weird with their old gods. Even if Nizzoth is the force behind Azshara, I wouldn’t be surprised if he showed up as a boss before she did.

More on Azshara later…

I’m such a Thrall fangirl it’s not even funny, even though I don’t agree 100% with him in a few areas.
I’m really excited about his new “promotion”, and I’m really, really excited to see how it happens at all.

And here I thought quitting wow in Cata would be easy. *sigh*
Good stuff, as always 🙂
