The Best Fallout News in a Decade

RadioactiveI have to confess, this happens all too often.  I’m reading, come upon some story, and think, “Hey! I should post that on Loregy!”  Then I don’t, time passes, and I think, “Shoot, that article’s five days old now; I’d look like a doofus posting it now.”

Well, that’s what’s happening here… Except, this news so damn good I don’t care if it was posted almost a month ago.

Here it is in a nutshell… Obsidian Entertainment is developing the next Fallout game.

Some of you might not realize what that means, so I’ll explain.

Imagine if ten years ago Chris Metzen and his buddies all left Blizzard as it went out of business.  Now imagine Metzen and his buddies then formed their own company, while in the meantime all of Blizzard’s franchises went floating off to be made by other people.  Now today, ten years later, the current owner of WarCraft, for the first time since Blizzard’s break up, have hired Metzen and his team to make the next WarCraft game.

That’s what just happened with Fallout.

Obsidian Entertainment contains a lot of the core talent behind Fallout and especially Fallout 2.  Their Chief Creative Officer is the Lore Master of Fallout himself, Chris Avellone.  We are in for one GREAT GAME.

You can read more about it here.

I think what’s going on is these will be two separate games, but I could be wrong.

While Bethesda has the rights to do a Fallout MMO, I believe the Obsidian guys have been hired to create Fallout 4, which will take place in Las Vegas.

From a lore standpoint (since hey, that’s what we’re all about here), the idea of doing Vegas is *awesome*, since it’ll allow the story to dovetail back into Fallout 1 & 2 a little with Southern California being so geographically close.

I hope they’ll make a far better game than New Vegas. They just seemed to just take what they could from that an Van Buren…urg.
