The Lore of Diablo

Diablo 3As most of you already know, Diablo 3 was announced just over a week ago at Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational.  There’s not much to say at this point, other than it has been 7 years since the last Diablo game was released, so it might be time we all beefed up on our Diablo lore.  Fortunately, it looks like Blizzard thought the same thing, as the lore page on Diablo 3’s official website is insane.

I’m actually surprised, since Blizzard has often been rather… odd with their lore support.  They’ll trickle out info regarding the lore of their future games, while at the same time shrugging off years of requests for a lore portion of their WoW forums.  They’ll prioritize game mechanics over lore, which is fine, but then suddenly give lore priority under weird circumstances.  Example?  They balked at the idea of gender specific classes for Night Elves in WoW (something that only affects aesthetics), then turned around and restricted druids to only using roots outside (a lore based nerf, which frankly made no sense).  Roots in a cave?!  Nonsense!

To get back to Diablo 3 though, take a look, it’s done as a book read completely out loud by Deckard Cain, with the cinematics from Diablo 2.
