Storytelling in Call of Duty 4

CoD4 Box CoverLast night, I finished playing through the single player campaign of Call of Duty 4 and was amazed by the storytelling. Perhaps I’m out of the loop on FPS’s and should give them a closer look.

Here’s the best way to put it… Look, regardless of what genre of games you’re into, you should try a First Person Shooter at least once. And if you’ll only ever play one, play Call of Duty 4. I’m serious. It’s that good.

The game features several levels which are there for the specific purpose of storytelling. Other levels make you feel you’re in the middle of a movie. As far as immersion goes there were a few moments where CoD4 wiped the walls with any RPG I have ever played. Simple as that. And you’ll know what I’m talking about if you play the game too.

I remember when FPS’s were nothing more than, “Duhhh, I click on man and he dies.” types of games suited more for players who didn’t possess the brain power to handle a game where they’d actually have to read. When I played the first Call of Duty I saw the beginnings of moving beyond that. Call of Duty 4 proves that the beach head has been firmly established.

Play the single mode of Call of Duty 4, even if just on easy mode. You’ll be glad you did.

Off topic but is this Coc? I just ran across an old blog of yours talking about Lois Auer. I studied with her in her home above Ventura Blvd. for 10 years! I miss her. Email me.
